想像一下，你坐著竹筏、背著沈重的潛水器材靠近一座小島，大老遠就能聞到刺鼻的硫磺味，接著你跳下水，閃躲海底噴口不時噴出的高溫熱泉……很刺激吧！鄭明修就曾有這樣的經驗，不過，他可不是探險家，而是一名研究學者，任職於中央研究院生物多樣性研究中心。幾年前，他到宜蘭外海龜山島海底，研究生活習性非常特殊的「怪方蟹」，研究論文登上國外很嚴謹的科學期刊，也榮獲日本「生態學琵琶湖獎」。
