Donate Clothing ®½Ãئç

Need to make room for your new spring clothes? Clean out your closet and donate the items that you no longer need to an appropriate organization. Over 600,000 homeless families a year depend on donated clothing. Be sure that your goods are clean and undamaged.

Spring into Gardening¬K¤Ñªá¶é

Take advantage of the warmer weather by creating an organic garden Creating an organic garden is not just for your Roots & Shoots group, but can also be shared with others. Fresh vegetables can be donated to a local food bank, and spring flowers can be potted to take to nursing home residents as a gift. Members can search in the "Gardening" category of the Project Database for even more ideas.

Make the Switch§ó´«¿Oªw

As you begin to use more fossil fuels to power your air conditioner and other household appliances, off-set some of your impact by replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL). A CFL uses 60 percent less energy than a regular light bulb. CFLs can be purchased at most local hardware stores or online at Energy Federation.

Don't Turn on your Air Conditioner on Just Yet ¸`¬ù¯à·½

In most cities, the weather hasn't gotten too hot yet, so just open windows or turn on a fan to keep your home cool. You can save money and reduce your home¡¦s carbon dioxide emissions. Be sure to replace or clean your air filter before using the air conditioner for the first time this season. A clean air filter can reduce household emissions by up to 350 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
