Across the country, people are taking action to make a difference for climate change through the Roots & Shoots "ReBirth the Earth: Trees for Tomorrow" youth campaign! We're working to raise $10,000 (USD) to fund the construction of five tree nurseries while planting 3,000 trees in the U.S. Thanks to the efforts of more than 30 individuals and groups, we are half way there!

Trees act as carbon sinks by absorbing carbon dioxide, which is one of the leading causes of climate change. Not only do ReBirth the Earth campaign participants help stop climate change by planting trees in their communities, they also raise money to plant trees in Tanzania. This means they make twice the difference!

Here are some of the projects that Roots & Shoots groups have done:
Members of Ashland Roots & Shoots School group at Ashland Middle School in Oregon raised $635.92 (USD) by planting 40 trees in their community. Group members practiced selling their message before collecting sponsorships from friends and family. They learned that planting trees helps not only the animals but the environment as well. Then, they convinced the Oregon & Washington Bureau of Land Management to donate 40 Oregon-native trees.

Members of the Bishop Roots & Shoots group at Bishop School in Arlington, Massachusetts are taking part in a year-long ReBirth the Earth project. The group is planting trees throughout their community while organizing a series of hands-on activities to learn about the science, economics, care, growth and importance of trees. They kicked off the event in April by replacing a tree in the sidewalk outside of their school.
